Assisting in the trial and launch of wireless broadband.

Wireless broadband is a technology that makes ultrafast broadband speeds available to many people where fibre optic cable is not commercially viable. As a relatively new service with many options for where and whom to serve, the client needed a way to prioritise development and launch. Our specific role was design coaching, trial design, and the “out of the box” experience to best insure customers had a successful first experience without in-person support.

We visually compiled existing insights, represented the user perspective during a design sprint, and designed and tested packaging and instructional content in people’s homes for the commercial launch. Packaging was designed to create a learning journey when opening and setting up the product.

Project components:
  • Experience Mapping: visual compilation of previous trial insights
  • Design Sprint coaching
  • Product Survey: global search and thematic visualisation of different elements in instructional packaging
  • Prototypes: five diverse variants on instructional packaging, multiple iterations
  • Content Design: minimalist instruction set combining simple imagery and words
  • In-context user testing: taking prototypes and content into homes to test, co-design changes, iterate and re-test
